ENLISTMENT AS TRAINEE PRIMARY SCHOOL EDUCATOR [General Purpose]

Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for enlistment as Trainee Primary School Educator [General Purpose] in the Roman Catholic Education Authority, Mauritius.

AGE LIMIT
Candidates should be between 18 and 40 years of age by the closing date for the
submission of applications.
- QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should possess:
1. A. Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language, French and Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings.
or
Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language, French, Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided that at o
.ne of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject.
Note
Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School Certificate will also be considered provided they possess passes in at least two subjects at “Principal Level” and one subject at “Subsidiary Level” as well as the General Paper obtained on one certificate at the Cambridge Higher School Certificate Examinations.
B. A Cambridge Higher School Certificate or Passes in at least two subjects obtained
on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Advanced Level”.
or
Equivalent qualifications to A and B above acceptable to the Roman Catholic
Education Authority.
2. Candidates should be computer literate.

- Qualification at 1.A above should have been obtained prior to qualification at 1.B above.
- Candidates should produce written evidence of knowledge claimed.
- The onus for submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Higher Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered in case of non-submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
- Qualifications obtained after the closing date for the submission of application will not be accepted.
- Candidates may be required to take part in a written examination.

CONDITIONS OF TRAINING AND ALLOWANCE
Selected candidates will be required to follow a two-year training course, both theoretical and practical, in all aspects of the work of a Primary School Educator, leading to the award of a Teacher’s Diploma (Primary) at such institution as may be approved.
During the training period, Trainee Primary School Educators will draw an allowance in the scale of Rs 26,045 x 300 – 26,645 a month. However, for the year 2026, the discounted initial allowance would be Rs 24,216. They will, however, have to meet from their allowance their expenditure on such items as books and such articles of personal equipment as required. Travelling expenses incurred by bus from residence to the place of work/training and back will be refunded.
On successful completion of their training, Trainee Primary School Educators will be considered for appointment to the grade of Primary School Educator as and when vacancies occur.
The permanent and pensionable post of Primary School Educator carries salary in the scale of Rs 31365 x 400 – 31765 x 425 – 33040 x 560 – 35840 x 725 – 37290 x 925 – 39140 x 970 – 46900 x 1050 – 49000 x 1100 – 52300 QB 53400 x 1100 – 54500 x 1450 – 57400 a month.
Bond
Selected candidates will be required, after serving a satisfactory moratorium period of one month, to enter into a bond (which will start as from the date of enlistment) together with two sureties in the sum of three hundred and seventy three thousand and six hundred and fifty rupees (Rs 373,650) to the effect that they will follow and complete the training course and serve in the Roman Catholic Aided Primary Schools in Mauritius for a period of three years as from the date of appointment in the grade of Primary School Educator.
2. Qualified candidates should fill in and submit the application form online and upload photocopies of their birth and academic certificates.
3. Incomplete, inadequate, inaccurate filling of the application form or non-submission of required photocopies will entail elimination of candidates from the selection.
4. Acknowledgement of applications will be made by e-mail. Candidates are, therefore, advised to submit a valid e-mail address.
CLOSING DATE
Application forms should be submitted online together with required photocopies not later than 3 p.m. on Friday 8 May 2026.
Applications received after the specified closing date and time will not be considered.
